The Gympie CBD is set to come alive again with the popular, Easter on Mary! Packed with excitement, Easter on Mary will feature evening boutique shopping, live music, delicious dining and food trucks, face painting, a petting zoo, plenty of street entertainment, and more! This is the perfect opportunity for the whole family to enjoy the Easter festivities. Unlock a world of excitement and creativity at Gympie Regional Libraries

Step into a library in the Gympie region during these school holidays and discover a world of excitement and creativity! With a swag of great activities and workshops on offer, you’ll find something for everyone. Spark your imagination with abstract art and collaging or make friendship bracelets to share with friends. A Straw Engineering Workshop will challenge the budding engineer to build a house, rollercoaster, or maze from straws and paddle pop sticks!

Other activities include: 

  • Robotics (Gympie Library, Thursdays) – Come down and get hands-on in one of our fun, relaxed sessions. Ages 5-12 years. 
  • Sphero (Rainbow Beach Library, Wednesday 3 April – Saturday 13 April) – Come along and try out Sphero, one of our Favourite robots! Ages 8+ 
  • Kids learn to sew: Beginner - Advanced (Gympie Library) Join us as we expand your knowledge of sewing by learning how to sew from a pattern. Bookings essential. Ages 8-12 years. 
  • Great paper plane race! (Rainbow Beach Library, Friday 5 April) – Can you design and build a winning paper plane? Learn the history of human flight and participate a paper plane race during this fun activity. Bookings essential. Ages 5-12 years.  
  • Design your own Coaster (Kilkivan Library, Tuesday 9 April) – Get craft and design your own coaster. Bookings Essential. Ages 5-12 years. 
  • Under the Sea diorama (Tin Can Bay Library, Thursday 11 April) – Join us as we create our very own under-the-sea diorama using mixed media. Bookings essential. Ages 5-12 years. 
  • Make a Sun Catcher (Gympie Library, Wednesday 3 April) – Get crafty as we design and make our own suncatchers with beads, crystals and charms. Ages 12 – 17 years. Bookings essential.

Discover Nature’s Hidden Gems

Looking for a place to cool down? Take a plunge in the tea-tree-coloured waters of Seary’s Creek or hop in a kayak and adventure down the Mary River. With many hidden gems to discover in the Gympie region, it's the perfect time to explore them during these school holidays. Live & Local, Gympie Region – live music in the park

Head down to Nelson Reserve for the first ‘Live & Local’ event of the year! Featuring winners of the 2023 Gympie Battle of the Bands Hugo and the Hive and Trillions along with special guests Wave Raiders this will be an afternoon of (free!) live music in the park. There will be plenty of space to sprawl out, set up a picnic, stroll the market stalls of young entrepreneurs, and enjoy some live music. Held as part of Queensland Youth Week 2024, this event will have a youth focus, but the whole family is welcome. We can’t wait to see you there!

The Alphabet of Awesome Science – mind-blowingly fun!

Join in the fun of combining the alphabet and science as we embark on a tongue-twisting race from A to Z where sesquipedalian words inspire mind-blowing scientific surprises! Word Nerd Lexi Con and Science Freak Noel create an engaging family-friendly event that will entertain the young and old. An hour of carefully crafted alphabetical, scientifical (award-winning!) chaos - that floats, flies, squirts, sprays, ignites, and erupts! We hope to see you and every member of your family there.

Looking for some outdoor fun? We've got you covered! Explore the Victory Heights Trails (by foot or bike) or stroll along the River to Rail Trail and explore the banks of the majestic Mary River. Whether it's a challenge for the teens or a gentle adventure for the little ones, we can help you find the perfect activity. Join us outside for your next great adventure!

Let the kids get creative and unleash their inner artist! Come and explore the gallery's Autumn Holiday Program and be inspired by the plants, animals, places, and techniques found in the new exhibition, Lionel's Place. With several workshops scheduled, the kids can explore easy engraving and printmaking on Tuesday and make their own silhouettes on Wednesday. It's the perfect experience for some hands-on artistic expression!  

Workshop Dates: 9-10 April 2024 

Ages: 7-12 years

Drop into the gallery from April 2 to May 25 (Tue-Sat 10am-4pm) and borrow a free Discovery Bag to explore the artworks in the travelling exhibition, Lionel's Place. Experience art through all your senses as you smell the flowers, see through the looking glass, and create animal sounds with tools that bring this exhibition to life.
