Investing in the Gympie region
Council invites investment to our region and offers outstanding lifestyle and business opportunities.
The Gympie region is a thriving community, renowned for its natural assets with huge potential for residents and business. We are well situated for future economic development, in the south-east corner of Queensland.
With strong leadership and policies along with key infrastructure projects, the region is fast becoming the jewel in the South East Queensland crown. The Gympie region sits on the fringe of the state’s largest consumer market (around four million consumers).
Gympie links to major airports and ports, with easy access to Queensland’s main centres plus direct road and rail infrastructure.
Within the next five years, the region is set to attract over $1 billon in new road infrastructure and over $3 billion in renewable energy projects. Our region is already famous for agriculture, timber, manufacturing, and tourism.
According to Terry Ryder from 'Hotspotting', Gympie is a regional city with a big future. In his report Terry said:
Gympie is a standout for its compelling combination of multiple attractants:
- a vibrant and ambitious business community
- a local council that is passionate about its city and its region
- a city that has a nationally-ranked growing local economy and is well-connected to large economies nearby
- an industry employment sector that includes national businesses and other major enterprises
- a resilient business sector, with key businesses increasing output during the pandemic
- good transport connections to those nearby major economies (the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane) via road, rail, and air
- a diverse residential lifestyle, including town, hill change, and sea change offerings
- an appealing level of housing affordability.
Our strong regional economy has a Gross Regional Product (GRP) of $2.2 billion. We support almost 19,000 jobs. Our annual economic growth has averaged at 3.6 per cent.
