Upgrades are underway at key intersections in Gympie, including Chapple Street, Lady Mary Terrace & Mellor Street, and Station Road, Tozer Street & Tozer Lane. These improvements aim to boost road and pedestrian safety while enhancing connectivity to the Gympie CBD.

The project includes new traffic lights, upgraded pedestrian pathways, and improved accessibility features such as ramps and crosswalks. These enhancements will ensure smoother traffic flow, safer crossings, and better access for all road users.

Works will include

  • New traffic lights will be installed at the intersections of Chapple and Mellor Streets, and Station Road and Tozer Street. 
  • A new pedestrian accessible ramp will be constructed to the railway level crossing. 
  • New kerbs, footpaths, ramps, crosswalks, and pedestrian access points will be developed. 
  • The road surface will be improved and the crossfall corrected, along with an upgrade to the stormwater drainage network. 
  • On-street and public carparking facilities will be upgraded. 

Project Timeline

The Station Road Signalised Intersections Project is scheduled to commence in April 2025 and is projected to be completed by the end of the year, pending favourable site and weather conditions.   

Funding Information

The Tozer Street, Mellor Street and Station Road $419,000 project is being funded through the Australian Governments Black Spot Program. Complimentary funding for the Mellor Street, Station Road, Chapple Street and Lady Mary Terrace project is being funded with $1.18 million through the Queensland Governments Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS) with the remainder of the project proudly funded by Gympie Regional Council.

When will works take place?

Construction will occur from 6am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. Occasionally, night and weekend work may be necessary, but residents and businesses will receive advance notice, and every effort will be made to minimise disruption.

 

Will I have access to my business / residential property?

The project aims to provide continuous access to all properties during the construction phase. Crews will communicate with property owners beforehand if there is likely to be any impact on access to their property.

 

What other disturbance can I expect as a nearby property?

You may experience construction noise; however, we anticipate minimal disturbance.
