Gympie Regional Council is inviting residents to shine the spotlight on a friend, family member, community organisation or leader who has contributed to our region's culture, excelled in sport, or made positive contributions to our community, by nominating them for an Australia Day Award. 

Nominations are now being accepted across six categories, including.  

  • Citizen of the Year Award is open to all residents in the Gympie region who have made a significant contribution during the year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.

  • Young Citizen of the Year Award is open to all residents in the Gympie region (up to the age of 25 years) who have made a significant contribution during the year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years. No starting age.

  • Resilience Award is open to all residents of the Gympie region who demonstrated a high level of resilience in facing personal or community challenge during the year. Created in memory of the late Roxanne MacGregor who was a disability advocate in the community.

  • Creative Award is open to all residents in the Gympie region who have made a significant contribution to the cultural life of the local community or an outstanding achievement in cultural activity(ies). Open to all ages. 

  • Sports Award is open to all residents in the Gympie region who have made a significant record of achievement in sport. Open to all ages.

  • Community Group, Event or Organisation of the Year Award is open to all community groups or organisations who have made a significant contribution during the year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years, or have staged the most outstanding event. 

Submissions close at 5pm, Wednesday 10 December 2025.
