Wildwatch Gympie

Wildwatch Gympie is an online service that lets you share sightings of our region’s threatened and priority native animals. Wildwatch Gympie also includes a form to record native animal vehicle strikes.

The information you give helps us to understand where the animals live and what threats they face. It also means we can better identify areas for conservation and rehabilitation.

You can use Wildwatch Gympie on any device, there is no App. to download.

Note for smooth use

For the smoothest experience, submitting an observation is best done on a desktop, laptop, or iPad.

iPhone users may encounter issues when using the dropdown lists in this recording platform.

Andriod devices generally handle mobile recording without problems. If you run into difficulties, please refer to the FAQs and Troubleshooting section of recording platform below.

Using Wildwatch Gympie is EASY!

STEP 2: Click on the ' Record a Wildwatch Observation' button above

STEP 3: Choose from one of 6 different report functions:

    Report a koala

    Report a local Priority Species

    Report a threatened terrestrial/land species

    Report a threatened 'aquatic' species

    Report a threatened 'bird' species

Report a native animal road incident

STEP 4: Read the information provided and Click 'Continue to Report'

STEP 5: Read the Pop-up Instructions and Click 'Agree and continue'

STEP 6: Zoom to your general location OR use the address/GPS search function

STEP 9: Work through the form

Fields marked with an * are compulsory, however please aim to fill in all fields.

STEP 10: Add Attachments (optional)

You can add photo or audio files (within size limits) at the end of the form. Adding photos ensures your observation can be better verified and adds to long-term accuracy of the data.

You can add a photo from your device camera or other location by selecting 'Add an Attachment'.

STEP 11: Press 'Submit' to Submit your observation

Only press 'submit' once. If 'Create' and 'Submit' buttons appear, choose 'Submit'.

Koala Action Gympie Region Logo

In 2024 the Koala Action Gympie Region community group (KAGR) created the below Story Map to share their learnings from nearly 10 years of koala conservation in Gympie Region and koala data collected by the community since the development of Gympie Wildwatch in 2019.

The Story Map is interactive, linking to our region’s live koala database ‘Wildwatch’.Story Maps are interactive web applications that are great to showcase stories about conservation, raise awareness, and inspire action. We hope this inspires you.
