Backflow Prevention
A backflow prevention device is a device used to prevent the reverse flow of water from a potentially polluted source into the drinking water supply. Backflow prevention devices can be installed in reticulated town water supply systems or other alternative water supplies used for drinking water including tank water.

Council's responsibilities
As required under the Queensland Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018, Gympie Regional Council maintains a register of all testable backflow prevention devices within the region.
Fees will apply.
Your responsibilities as an owner
- Register the backflow prevention device with council by calling 5481 0456.
- Maintain the device under the Plumbing and Drainage Regulation 2019.
- Have the device suitably inspected or tested by a suitably endorsed person at least once a year.
- If the device will be in a flood area, it must be tested within 10 business days of subsidence of floodwater.
Licensee responsibilities
- Provide council notice within 10 days after testing or maintaining the device by completing this form. Your service agent may also upload the test report directly to the council’s database.
Note: Fees will apply for lodging hard copy versions of the form.
