Gold City Centre Stage Roof Renewal
Gympie Regional Council is upgrading the Gold City Stage roof to ensure this much-loved community venue remains safe, functional, and welcoming. The existing roof has reached the end of its serviceable life and has also been affected by recent weather, making renewal a key step in protecting and enhancing this important local asset.
Works will include:
- All necessary scaffolding and site fencing to facilitate access to the various roof areas.
- Removal of existing roof panels and installation of new panels (crane works)
- Investigate condition of structure and undertake any necessary repairs
- Recycling of the roofing material
Timeline:
Works are scheduled to commence from Monday, 22 September 2025 and are expected to take approximately 10 weeks, weather and site conditions permitting.
Impacts:
- Noise during roof panel removal and during painting preparation
- Male amenities will be unavailable during these works to allow for repairs to leaking roof
- Temporary closure of female amenities while work is undertaken on the roof above the female toilet entry. Public amenities are available in Memorial Lane.
- Temporary partial closure of the multistorey carpark off Glandore Lane during actual roof removal (including steps/footpath access)
- A short closure of Glandore Lane to allow for machinery movements. Appropriate signage will be in place.
Funding:
The essential works under the Priority Building Asset Renewals Program – Gympie Central Business District, proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland Program, will restore much-loved community spaces, including the Gympie Library, keeping them in great condition and ready for reading, catching up with friends, and hosting community events.
What is wrong with the Gold City Stage?
The roof panels of the Gold City Stage have been damaged over time due to age and the weather affecting the integrity and strength of the roof.
The roof renewal will ensure this community asset can continue to play a key role in Mary St and community events.
Are any aspects of the structure heritage listed?
Will the public still have access to the public amenities block?
Due to their proximity to the Gold City Stage, the female amenities will be temporarily closed while roof repairs are carried out above the entry.
The male amenities will also remain closed for the full duration of the roof repair works.
Alternative facilities are available nearby at Memorial Lane.
In addition, the stairwell leading to the multistorey carpark will be closed during this period.
I have a booking for that space, what do I do?
If you have a booking, Council will be in touch to work with you on finding an alternative location for the duration of the works.
Will this space be available for the Mary St Christmas events?
The intention is to have the works completed in advance of any planned Mary St events.
In the event that the works are delayed, alternative arrangements will be made for artists performing at the events.
