Albert Park Grandstand Restoration Project

The Albert Park Grandstand $1.6 million restoration renewal is now completed after undergoing a flood recovery restoration, after it sustained extensive damage during the February 2022 floods. 

Funded by Gympie Regional Council, which received additional support from the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), the $1.6 million restoration project delivered repairs and upgrades to improve the facility’s condition, functionality and long-term use.

 

Project Scope 

The restoration project has repaired significant flood damage and delivered a range of upgrades that improve the grandstand's safety, functionality and long-term resilience. 

Works completed include: 

  • Removal and replacement of the three external staircases 

  • Removal and replacement of the front balustrade and its foundations 

  • Removal and replacement of the grandstand's end screen panels 

  • Conversion of the former canteen into a new meeting room 

  • Deep cleaning and removal of mould and sediment from fixtures, the roof and underfloor areas 

  • Internal and external painting, including remediation of existing lead-based paint 

  • Construction of new concrete pathways around the building 

  • Installation of new epoxy flooring in the change rooms, bathrooms and meeting room 

  • Electrical repairs and upgrades 

  • Installation of new air conditioning and hot water systems in the meeting room 

  • Repairs to the existing timber seating and flooring 

  • Reconnection of plumbing, internet, fire-fighting equipment and gas services 

  • Replacement of change room bench seating and wall hooks 

  • Landscaping works, including new turf to match existing conditions
