Gympie Region Community Services Directory

Many people, families and communities in the Gympie region are faced with challenges and find it hard to know where to find support or assistance. There are many dedicated service providers, organisations and agencies in the Gympie region that offer support to those members of our community in times of need.

The Community Services Directory is a collection of resources available to the community.

  • Community Action Inc

    Community action inc logo

    Community Action provides a range of support services in response to the needs of the community. Services include community housing, support services and accommodation for young people, support services and accommodation for women and children experiencing domestic and family violence, financial counselling, and multicultural support for new migrants.

    CAI Housing Service    

    Housing Service provides subsidised housing for people through a range of community and alternate housing programs.  

    CAI Youth Service

    Youth Service provides a range of programs that aim to reduce homelessness and respond to the health and well-being needs of vulnerable young people aged 12-25 within the Gympie Region. This support has a primary focus on youth homelessness (including those at risk of homelessness), wrap-around case management support, a free fortnightly GP clinic, access to emergency relief, a pregnant young mum’s group, information, advocacy, and referral.

    CAI Gympie Region Domestic & Family Violence Service  

    GRDFVS provides counselling and support to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence, support to complete applications for protection orders and when attending court and safety home upgrades. 

    CAI Erin House   

    Erin House provides support and refuge to women and children escaping domestic and family violence. 

    CAI Financial Literacy and Resilience Program (FLARP)

    A free financial counselling and money management service to help people learn about managing debts, budgeting assistance and advocacy. We also provide free financial literacy support workshops.

    CAI Multicultural Information Network Service (MINS)

    MINS provides individualised, client centred services to meet the needs of new migrants that can assist with supporting a successful settlement.   

    Family Child Connect

    Family and Child Connect - Information and referral service for families at risk of entering the child protection system. Short-term support to link in with referrals for whole of family support. The team can do a home visit and phone support.

    Footprints Community

    Footprints community

    The Care Finder Navigator is a free service for vulnerable elderly people in the Gympie region without supports in place. Footprints can help navigate to access relevant services for specific needs, including My Aged Care and the Department of Housing.

    The Care Finder can advocate and support clients in arranging and attending home care assessments.

    Gympie Al-Anon Family Groups

    The purpose of Al-Anon is to help families & friends of alcoholics by offering hope & friendship & better understanding of the effects on themselves of someone else's excessive drinking of alcohol. Al-Anon is a self-supporting, not for profit organisation.

    Gympie & District Women’s Health Centre

    We are a community-based, not-for-profit organisation providing trauma-informed counselling, therapeutic groups and community education and support services as well as a sexual and reproductive health GP clinic.

    Headspace Gympie

    Headspace 1

    headspace Gympie provides free confidential health services for young people aged 12-25 across the Gympie region.

    headspace Gympie can help with support, information and services for health and wellbeing including mental health, physical and sexual health, education and employment services and alcohol and other drug services.

    We are an inclusive service that does not discriminate regardless of age, race, cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or disability.

    IFYS Outreach provides immediate assistance and support for those who have found themselves homeless and rough sleeping, this may include sleeping bag/tent, hygiene packs, Urban Angel meals - all are subject to current stocks/availability.

    Our services include:

    • Assistance to connect to other support services in Gympie that provide showers/washing machines/meals, food banks/hamper, clothing etc.
    • Assistance with referrals to other services providers such as Emergency Funding and Emergency/Crisis Accommodation are subject to eligibility associated with that organisation. IFYS Outreach supports and advocates for vulnerable clients in need.

    *IFYS Outreach does not have an immediate housing solution for referrals.

    Jabba Jabba Child Health, Child, Youth & Family Health, SCHHS

    We offer growth and development checks, hearing screening and vaccinations for our Aboriginal community.

    We have a child health clinic that is accessible for any family based at Gympie hospital also.

    Child health offers parenting support, speech therapy, bub's groups, and an intensive home visiting service for vulnerable families.

We work with people to help get their lives back on track by delivering a wide range of programs and services. Our Queensland services are delivered across more than 20 locations with outreach into many more communities. We specialise in community-based counselling and group programs for those impacted by drug and alcohol use and for their families.

    Tenants Queensland (TQ) is a specialist statewide community and legal service for renters. TQ seeks to represent the concerns of all Queensland tenants who live in rental accommodation, including caravan park and boarding house residents. TQ provides a range of tenancy information and advocacy services including: a statewide telephone advice service for tenants, tenancy publications, a tenancy law training program, and tenancy law research and policy development.

    TQ also manages and delivers the Queensland Statewide Tenant Advice and Referral Service (QSTARS) which provides a free and independent advice service for all Queensland renters.

    QSTARS can assist with:

    Advice and assistance to understand tenancy rights and responsibilities.

    Support to resolve tenancy issues.

    Advocacy support to talk to lessors and/ or agents.

    Help with the completion of tenancy forms.

    Help to attend or prepare for a QCAT tenancy tribunal hearing.

    Referral to other services if needed.

    UnitingCare's qualified family dispute resolution practitioners facilitate sessions between separating couples to help them agree on parenting and financial arrangements that work for everyone. They can also refer clients to other specialist programs that can help. Other UnitingCare programs offered in the Gympie Region include the Parenting Orders Program, Men Choosing Change and Counselling services.

    Gympie Meals on Wheels

    For over 65 years, Meals on Wheels has played a crucial role nationally in supporting the health and wellbeing of over 200,000 older Australians every year across our member network of over 590 service locations.

    Our shared purpose is to support well-nourished, independent, and connected communities through the delivery of a nutritious meal, social connection, and a wellbeing check by our dedicated volunteer workforce.

    Gympie Medical Transport Inc. (GMT)

    GMT provides an individual medical transport service for all community members in the Gympie Region (excludes the Cooloola Coast) for non-urgent medical and surgical appointments and procedures.

    GMT travel to Hervey Bay in the north and to Brisbane in the south and anywhere in between. For bookings or enquiries please contact the office for further information.

    Gympie Recovery Accommodation Park

    The Gympie Recovery Accommodation Park provides temporary accommodation to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. New residents are referred to the park through community providers in the Gympie region or through the Maroochydore Housing Service Centre.

    The aim of the KVCMS is to support those with general and mental health conditions and at risk from isolation. We can provide a cooking facility for disasters or approved council food production, BBQ, gazebos, woodwork, metal work and a large trailer. Communications through use of our laptops on site as we did for the last floods. A defibrillator and first aid kits are on hand with trained operators.

    We seek to address and provide support for people experiencing domestic and family violence and families facing hardship across the regions. Together with the provision of several safe houses and an emergency accommodation refuge, SunnyKids support vulnerable children and families to overcome challenges, foster self-agency, and enhance their overall well-being.

    Veteran’s Retreat is a registered charity farm stay located in Mothar Mountain, just outside Gympie. The retreat is volunteer-run and open to all serving members, veterans, first responders, and their families/carers.

    We offer day visits, overnight stays, animal therapy, holistic wellness events, emergency and respite accommodation, homeless veteran care and more.  Our key focus is on meaningful engagement.

    At Jobmatch, we also offer a range of NDIS services from daily living assistance, school leaver employment supports, personal training, specialised employment support, community participation, coordinating and managing life skills and transitioning, transport, and training.     Skills Generation is a non-for-profit organisation funded by the Federal Government and is part of a consortium with COTA (Council of the Aging Qld) and Skills Generation (Registered Training Organisation). Our goal is to increase the workforce primarily in the Home and Community Aged Care Sector, along with residential and disability care in certain rural areas.

    Our service is totally free to both employers and potential employees. To date, we have placed around 1000 people into jobs in the sector across Queensland.
