The Gympie region is made up of diverse landscapes and has history with natural hazard disasters and serious weather events. From catchment-wide flooding to fast-moving bushfires, severe storms, low-pressure systems and cyclones – the Gympie region community is experienced in overcoming challenges.  

The community’s strong values, bonds and care for one another provides the necessary skills, capacity and resilience needed to rise to the challenges of future events.  

Think Ahead Gympie Region delivers disaster preparedness educational information and resources to increase community safety, and reduce the risk of future damage to residents, businesses and the wider community. Through promoting the importance of advance planning, Gympie Regional Council is committed to continued improvement and preparation for future natural disaster hazards and events.   

In 2024, Think Ahead Gympie Region maintains a strong focus on providing tools and information to the community to prepare for future flooding events. The same preparedness principles can be applied to any natural hazard event.
