Local Housing Action Plan

Queensland Housing Strategy and Action Plan

The Queensland Housing Strategy 2017-2027 articulates the Queensland Government’s plan to work with communities, industry and the housing and homelessness sector to deliver more social and affordable homes and better services for vulnerable Queenslanders.  In June 2021, the Queensland Government launched the Queensland Housing and Homelessness Action Plan 2021-2025, a four year plan to deliver the next stage of the Housing Strategy.

Item 5 of the Action Plan commits the Queensland Government to working with regional councils to increase and diversify the supply of housing, including opportunities for alternative government and non-government investment incentives.  This action includes collaborating with regional councils to develop Local Housing Action Plans to understand and prioritise key local issues and develop operational arrangements to achieve better housing outcomes.

Gympie Region Local Housing Action Plan 2022 – a first for Queensland

The Gympie Region Local Housing Action Plan 2022 is the first plan to be developed between the Queensland Government and a Local Government entity.  The plan aims to improve the availability, diversity and quality of housing overtime and encourages community liveability, resilience and social and economic prosperity.  The Plan will supplement the work that Council is already undertaking in the development of its new Local Planning Scheme. The plan was endorsed by Council at its Ordinary Meeting on 21 September 2022.
