About the Gympie Region

Ours is a region of contrasts. With beautiful beaches, unspoiled coastlines, majestic hinterlands, lush rolling hills and stunning nature all around us, this is a region to be proud of.

To the east we have the Cooloola Coast. This is home to Rainbow Beach, Cooloola Cove, Tin Can Bay and the 4WD gateway to K’Gari (Fraser Island). To the west are our pioneering towns of Kilkivan and Goomeri. And to the south, the lush rural communities of Mary Valley, home to a variety of fresh local produce.

In the middle is our city, the heritage town of Gympie. What connects us is our pioneering spirit and deep love of the region and the pride we take in sharing it with you.

The region has had a strong agricultural economy. Our industries include beef, dairy, livestock and horticulture.

We cover an area of 6,898 sq. km. The estimated population of the area is almost 50,000 with predicted growth of up to 60,600 people by 2036.
