Recreational Vehicle (RV) Strategy
Gympie is working to capitalise on the growing recreational vehicle (RV) market and is exploring ways it can better attract and accommodate people travelling in and around the region using self-contained motorhomes and caravans.
As part of this process, the council is developing a dedicated RV Strategy to ensure it caters well to RV travellers with suitable and well-maintained facilities, as well as addressing the broader regional impacts on residents, business and the local infrastructure.
In November and December 2018, 533 RV travellers, local residents and business owners completed a council survey seeking community feedback on how the region can better cater to RV travellers. Interviews with commercial operators, industry groups and State Government departments also provided feedback. The feedback received informed the development of the draft RV Strategy
The draft RV Strategy was then made available to the public as part of a series of public consultation sessions that were held throughout the region at Tin Can Bay, Kandanga, Gympie and Kilkivan. These –drop-in sessions were held during February and March 2019 and gave RV travellers, local business and residents the opportunity to view the draft RV Strategy, ask questions and provide additional feedback to support the development of the final draft strategy document.
The final draft RV Strategy is currently being updated to address the feedback received during the public consultation sessions and will be tabled for discussion at an upcoming Councillor Workshop. A summary of the feedback received from RV travellers, local business and residents will also be tabled for the Councillors’ consideration.
The final draft RV Strategy, incorporating any additional feedback from the Councillors, will be considered by Council at an Ordinary Meeting for final approval.
