think ahead flood alerts

To be prepared for future flooding events, it is important to know where to find relevant alerts and warnings. Familiarising yourself now means you can stay informed, make decisions, and act quickly when you need to.

  • Visit the Disaster Dashboard for the latest emergency information. While you’re there, Opt-In for Alerts so you can receive important warnings and information via notifications on your device.
  • Sign up for flood warning notifications via the Bureau of Meteorology Weather App.
  • Check the Bureau of Meteorology website.
  • Check social media – Council, Emergency Services (in particular Queensland Police Service which now incorporates Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Marine Rescue Queensland and Queensland State Emergency Service, Queensland Ambulance Service, and Surf Life Saving Queensland) and the Bureau of Meteorology will all provide regular updates where possible.
  • Tune into local radio station/s. ABC Radio is the emergency broadcaster and provides regular updates during emergencies. There are several ways you can tune in for information during an emergency:
  • Download the ABC listen app to listen to your local ABC Radio station. You can ‘favourite’ your local station, so you can find it easily in an emergency.
  • Visit reception.abc.net.au to find your local radio frequency. Write it down and stick it to the battery-powered radio in your emergency kit.
  • Stream any ABC station from around Australia online at any time on the ABC Listen website. You can tune into ABC radio stations around Australia based on location.
  • For more information visit the ABC Emergency Website.
  • ABC Sunshine Coast 95.3 FM and ABC Wide Bay 100.1 FM cover the wider Gympie area.
  • Watch the flood warnings video below from the Queensland Reconstruction Authority to find out more about how Queensland’s rain and river gauges work, and how forecasts warn our communities.
