Proposed Amendments to the Gympie Regional Council Planning Scheme 2013

Notice is given under the Planning Act 2016 that Gympie Regional Council is proposing minor and major amendments to the Gympie Regional Council Planning Scheme 2013 (the Planning Scheme).

Council, at its Ordinary meeting on 28 June 2022 resolved to:

  • Make an Administrative and Major Amendment to the Gympie Regional Council Planning Scheme 2013; and
  • Make an Administrative Amendment to Planning Scheme Policy 1: Development Standards.

The above amendments have been packaged to form Amendment Package 3 to the Planning Scheme. The purpose of the amendments comprising Amendment Package 3 is to:

  • address specific changes to the Southside Local Development Area (LDA)
  • increase the number of caravans, tent sites or cabins permitted as ‘accepted development subject to requirements’ within the Rural zone from four (4) caravans, tent sites or cabins to eight (8)
  • include Dwelling house as ‘accepted development’ where not ‘Accepted development subject to requirements’ (ADSR) in the following tables of assessment:
    • Residential Living
    • Residential Choice
    • Rural Residential
  • include additional assessment benchmarks for Tourist parks on Council owned or controlled land
  • clarify levels of assessment for operational work
  • update the design criteria in Planning Scheme Policy 1: Development Standards
  • make minor administrative corrections

The proposed amendment package ‘Amendment Package 3’ has undergone its first formal State interest check and Council has been advised that the proposed amendments appropriately integrate the relevant State interests.

In accordance with Part 3, item 9.2 of the Minister’s Guidelines and Rules, Gympie Regional Council is consulting the community on the proposed amendment package.

Public consultation on the proposed amendments commences Friday 2 June 2023 and closes Friday 30 June 2023. During the consultation period, a copy of the proposed amendments can be viewed and/or purchased at Council’s Planning and Development office, 29 Channon Street, Gympie during normal office hours. Copies of the proposed amendments will also be available on Council’s website during this period at www.gympie.qld.gov.au/haveyoursay.

Any person may make a submission about any aspect of the proposed amendments. Submissions are to be:

  • in writing;
  • signed by each person who has made the submission (unless the submission is made electronically);
  • state the name and address of each person making the submission; and
  • state the grounds of the submission and the facts and circumstances relied on to support the grounds of the submission; and
  • received no later than 5:00pm on Friday 30 June 2023.
