Gympie Regional Council is pleased to announce that J.J Richards and Sons Pty Ltd (t/as JJ’s Waste & Recycling) has been awarded the contract for kerbside waste and recycling collection services across the Gympie region, following a thorough tender evaluation process.

The new service will commence on Monday, 30 June 2025, with an initial contract term of eight years.

Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig said the appointment of a new contractor represents a significant milestone for the region and reflects Council’s focus on quality, reliability, and long-term community outcomes.

“Waste collection is one of Council’s core responsibilities and an essential service for our community,” Cr Hartwig said.

“This contract supports the delivery of our recently endorsed Waste Strategy 2025–2035, which sets a clear direction for a more sustainable and resource-efficient region.

“We’re looking forward to building a strong and long-term partnership with JJ Richards that not only delivers reliable collection services but also supports our broader goals — including more education for schools and residents around waste reduction and recycling.

“I’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to Cleanaway for their many years of dedicated service to the Gympie region.”

From 30 June, households across the region will begin to see JJ Richards trucks servicing their areas. While collection days will remain the same, some residents may notice changes to the time their bins are collected. Council is reminding all households to place bins out by 5am on their collection day to avoid missed services.

The new JJ Richards fleet will feature on-board technology to improve service reliability and efficiency. Residents are encouraged to review their current waste service details to ensure the number of bins at their property matches their rates notice.
