Mary Valley Rail Trail partial temporary closure – Imbil to Brooloo Rail Trail Restoration Works

Back

During the 2022 floods, sections of the Mary Valley Rail Trail (MVRT) were damaged. In April 2023, after restoring access to some sections, Council reopened the Mary Valley Rail Trail, however, it was determined additional restoration works were still required.

Through assistance provided by the jointly funded Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), Gympie Regional Council will be conducting works to restore the Imbil to Brooloo portion of the Mary Valley Rail Trail.

Works are scheduled to commence at the end of June 2025 and are expected to finish by the end of August 2025, weather permitting.

Works

Gympie Regional Council will shortly be undertaking significant flood restoration works at three sites along the Imbil to Brooloo section of the MVRT. To minimise disruption, works on sites 1 and 2 will coincide with harvesting works being undertaken by HQ Plantations.

  • Site 1 (near forestry access road crossing) (23/06/25 – 17/07/25)
    • Installation of a new drainage pipe and headwalls
    • Embankment repairs
    • Track repairs
  • Site 2 (between forestry road crossing and Brooloo) (21/07/25 – 12/08/25)
    • Installation of a new drainage pipe and headwalls
    • Concrete batter protection and pavement works
  • Site 3 (near Western Creek Road) (18/08/25 – 21/08/25)
    • Removal and replacement of damaged and concrete pavement on the top of a multi-cell box culvert
    • Construction of new concrete pavement on the approach to the said culvert

Partial trail closure

During construction, a portion of the trail will be temporarily closed for safety.

Access roads and carparks will remain open and safety fencing and signage will be in place and the public will still be able to safely access the 1.6km of trail on either side of this partial closure.

Although works will start at Site 1, progressing to sites 2 and 3, respectively, the entire portion of the trail under construction will remain closed for the entirety for the project due to the nature of the works and the use of large earthmoving equipment.
