One of Australia’s most popular rally motorsport festivals is returning to the region in 2025, with Rally Gympie Region promising a whole new level of thrill and adventure for all ages and interests.

Gympie Regional Council is supporting this major destination event, which has grown exponentially since its beginning in 2020.

Gympie Mayor Glen Hartwig said Rally Gympie Region had cemented itself as a premier destination event for the region, with this year’s program tipped to be the biggest, and most diverse lineup to date.

“We are delighted to be welcoming the Accent Benchtops Rally Queensland (ABRQ) back to Gympie as part of a jam-packed Rally festival right here at home,” Cr Hartwig said.

“What makes Rally Gympie Region so special is our unique ability to throw out the welcome mat and create an electric atmosphere that extends far beyond the rally track.

“Last year the event was named the ‘Mainfix Event of the Year’ and the ‘Pedders Rally Central of the Year’ as voted by the rally competitors, which is a testament to the community’s support for this one-of-a-kind festival.

“We’re excited to bring back the crowd favourite ‘Wheels on Mary’ which will see more than 60 rally cars on display, alongside food stalls, markets, live music, and family entertainment lighting up Mary Street. This family favourite is the crown jewel in the calendar, and we are excited to partner with local business Velmec Automotive to bring this much-loved street party to life.

“This year we’ll also see the Gympie Showgrounds transform into a rally hub, with the Telstra Rally Village offering a chance for punters to get up close and personal with rally teams, check out automotive displays and trade stalls.

“This year we are also working with organisers to bring in exciting new additions including a nationally recognised BBQ competition, and Cooloola Car Club’s ‘Wheels for Wishlist’ show and shine for classic car lovers.

“There really is something for everyone this year, with the acclaimed Gympie Rotary Heritage Makers Fair also taking place at the Showgrounds over the same weekend, offering a glimpse into years gone by with a range of heritage trades, arts, and crafts on display.

“Rally Gympie Region is an event our community can be proud of, and I congratulate all the local volunteers, businesses, and organising groups for all the work they have done to make 2025 our greatest year yet.”

Rally Queensland Clerk of the Course Brian Everitt said organisers were excited to see the Australian Rally Championship and Queensland Rally Championship competitors take to Gympie’s iconic forest tracks.

“This year we are expecting around 60 to 65 competitors from all over the country testing their skills on our challenging forest tracks,” Mr Everitt said.

“What sets Gympie apart is our ability to bring the community along for the journey, and punters can get close to the action at one of several spectator points in the region’s stunning forestry areas.

“The Gympie community has always been so supportive of our sport and we’re proud to work with Council to bring something special to town.”
