Gympie Regional Council is thrilled to partner with Opera Queensland to bring their celebrated regional tour, Are You Lonesome Tonight, to the Gympie region. This free, family-friendly event will take place at Nelson Reserve on Wednesday, 28 May, from 6:30pm.

This one-of-a-kind performance offers an exciting blend of country music and opera, combining the iconic sounds of Slim Dusty, Troy Cassar-Daley, Dolly Parton, Puccini, and Verdi for a truly unique musical experience under the stars. The community is encouraged to bring along a picnic blanket or chair, relax, and enjoy this captivating show.

Mayor Glen Hartwig said regional tours are vital for giving the community access to a diverse range of performances and workshops, and this creative collaboration is another way Council is delivering against its Arts and Cultural Strategy.

“I’m excited to welcome Opera Queensland to the Gympie region to deliver a unique show for our community,” Cr Hartwig said.

“Regional tours such as Are You Lonesome Tonight play a crucial role in giving our community access to outstanding performances and workshops, while also providing the opportunity to inspire and spark an interest into Gympie’s arts and culture scene.”

The event invites the community to come as they are, whether in jeans and boots or tuxedos and ballgowns, promising a musical performance like no other – one that you won’t want to miss.

This performance of Are You Lonesome Tonight is presented by Opera Queensland and Gympie Regional Council. The National Tour of Are You Lonesome Tonight is supported by Creative Australia through the Playing Australia Fund and Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and the Regional Arts Development Fund.
