Gympie Regional Council welcomes Outlook Australia as new waste facility manager.
The Gympie Waste Management Facility and waste transfer stations at Rainbow Beach, Tin Can Bay, Mary Valley, Gunalda, Widgee, Goomeri, and Kilkivan will transition to new management effective Sunday, 1st December.
Outlook Australia successfully secured the contract for facility management with Gympie Regional Council for a period of 6years plus the option of extension. Previously managed by the Endeavour Foundation, all staff employed at the facilities have been offered employment with Outlook Australia, ensuring jobs remain local.
Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig expressed gratitude to the previous management and welcomed the new partnership.
“Endeavour Foundation has managed our eight sites around the region for 7years, and I’d like to thank them for their dedication and hard work in sustainability and resource recovery for the Gympie region.
“I’d also like to extend a warm welcome to Outlook Australia to our beautiful region. We look forward to working with you,” he said.
Director of Community Sustainability, Alex Stengl emphasised that regular visitors will see continuity during the transition.
“It will be business as usual for many visitors to the facilities. You’ll notice new uniforms and signage, but overall, it will be the same friendly faces you are used to seeing.
“Gympie Regional Council is excited to collaborate with Outlook Australia to enhance resource recovery, improve standards, and elevate service levels across the region” she said.
Callum Ross, Executive for Social Enterprise at Outlook Australia said they are thrilled to partner with Gympie Regional Council to manage their waste facilities and transfer stations.
“Our team is committed to not only maintaining continuity for the local community but also leveraging our experience in resource recovery initiatives across Regional Queensland, where we have improved sustainability outcomes and service standards.
“We look forward to building a strong relationship with the Gympie community, enhancing environmental outcomes, and supporting the local workforce.” he said.
Lori Giles, Regional Manager for Queensland at Outlook Australia reflects on Outlook Australia’s vision.
“For every 150 tonnes of waste we recover, we are able to create one job for members of the community experiencing disadvantage or barriers to employment within the local Gympie region.” she said.
