Looking for a weekend project, some scrap metal, or spare parts? Look no further than Gympie Regional Council’s Abandoned Vehicles Auction, 31 July 2024 at Council’s Impound Yard, Laurenceson Road, Gympie.

This year’s auction will feature over 35 vehicles. Gympie Regional Council hosts an auction every few years to clear the impound lot of vehicles collected from all corners of the Gympie region.

The last auction in 2022 was a success for both Council and eager car enthusiasts looking for a deal. The lowest price paid was $40 for a catamaran. The highest price paid was $1700 for a Nissan Skyline. Most vehicles were sold for less than $350.

Gympie Regional Council Alex Stengl Director of Community Sustainability states the efforts staff go to before the vehicles end up at auction.

“Council staff leave notices, conduct searches, and issue letters to the last-registered owners to try to locate the owners of the vehicles. Auction is the final step for these vehicles,

“The auction ensures that Council is able to recover some of the costs involved in impounding these vehicles,” she said.

Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig says there’s some great deals to be found.

“If a few bumps, bruises, rust, and missing parts don’t scare you away you are bound to find something. Some of the vehicles would make great weekend projects while others are only good for scrap metal or spare parts,

“In previous years Council have auctioned off everything from a trailer of whitegoods to a catamaran. While there isn’t a catamaran in this year’s auction, there is several vehicles that are guaranteed to draw some interest. You never know what you’ll leave with,” He said.

The auction will commence at 10am, vehicles can be inspected from 9am. Attendees must wear enclosed footwear and sign in prior to auction commencement. Children under 16 years are not permitted into the compound.

Cash will not be accepted. EFTPOS facilities will be available.
