Gympie Regional Gallery: May & June - Upcoming Exhibitions

Back

The Gympie Regional Gallery is thrilled to welcome two new exhibitions in May and June. State of the Art (SOTA) 24 Red Expressions - a juried and judged collection of textile art created by members of the Queensland Quilters, and JADA – Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award, a Grafton Regional Gallery touring exhibition celebrating Australian contemporary drawing at its finest.

JADA is Grafton Regional Gallery’s biennial flagship art prize. The touring exhibition for JADA 2022 continues a tradition of excellence, with 56 artists selected from 641 entries. The exhibition has travelled communities across the East Coast of Australia, to promote contemporary drawing to regional audiences throughout 2023 and 2024. Gympie is the last stop.

JADA 2022 celebrates the diversity of contemporary drawing. The exhibition encapsulates the extraordinary spectrum of current drawing practice, from the expressive and abstract to hyperrealism, as well as works that evoke a poetic and emotional response to our environment, the human condition, and current global events.

Local artist, Ian Gunn, is a finalist in this touring exhibition, and his work, Stolen Spaces (diptych), is featured.

State of the Art (SOTA) 24 Red Expressions is a juried and judged textile art prize created by Queensland Quilters members. In 2024, SOTA is celebrating its 15th Anniversary, as well as the 40th Anniversary of Queensland Quilters. Exhibition artworks explore the theme of Red Expressions and demonstrate various techniques, including painting, printing, eco-dyeing, collage, hand and machine stitching, and more. All works must have at least two layers, held together in some way.

  • SOTA 24 Red Expressions officially opens at Gympie Regional Gallery on Saturday 25 May and can be viewed until the end of June.
  • SOTA Official Opening: Saturday, 25 May, 1.30 pm. Free entry. Refreshments served. All welcome.
