Supporting the Community - Get Ready Plan Ahead Workshops

Back

Being prepared for extreme weather is a shared responsibility. To support vulnerable community members, Gympie Regional Council is partnering with the Queensland Disability Network (QDN) to deliver a series of Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) workshops.

The ‘Get Ready Plan Ahead’ workshops are free and designed to help prepare seniors and people with disabilities within the Gympie region for extreme weather, disasters, and emergencies.

Workshops are designed to be inclusive and accessible. They will include information and practical tools to assist with:

  • Creating personal emergency plans
  • Self-assessing preparedness and capabilities
  • Managing individual support needs in emergencies
  • Working together with support networks before, during, and after disasters and emergencies

Council’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Robert Jennings said the workshops formed part of a broader plan to prepare the community for extreme weather, disasters, and emergencies.

“Council has recently launched a Summer Safety campaign with tips and resources to help prepare the community for the Summer season,” Mr Jennings said.

“The Get Ready Plan Ahead workshops ensure we are supporting the whole community in planning and preparation. We welcome all those who wish to attend and look forward to working with QDN to deliver the workshops to the community”.

Each workshop will be split into two parts, across two days.
