Back

Gympie Regional Council is inviting residents to shine the spotlight on a friend, family member, community organisation or leader who has contributed to our region's culture, excelled in sport, or made positive contributions to our community, by nominating them for an Australia Day Award.

Nominations are now being accepted across six categories, including.

· Citizen of the Year Award

· Young Citizen of the Year Award

· Resilience Award

· Creative Award

· Sports Award

· Community Group, Event or Organisation of the Year Award.

Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig says he always looks forward to this special event, as it celebrates individuals who go above and beyond for the good of our region.

“Within the Gympie region we are fortunate to have so many talented individuals who are dedicated to making our community a great place to live.

“The Australia Day Awards provide a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge those people and organisations who work tirelessly, and love being involved in our wider community.

“The Resilience Award will be returning this year to specifically acknowledge community members of the Gympie region who demonstrated great resilience in facing personal or community challenge during the year.

“This award has been created in honour of (the late) Roxanne MacGregor who showed tremendous resilience in her approach to life.

“Roxanne gave so much more to the world than she ever took. A wonderful woman that really did champion the cause for those with disability in the Gympie region.”

“I encourage everyone within our region to nominate someone they know who deserves to be acknowledged for the contributions they make,” he said.

Submissions close at 5pm, Sunday 10 December 2023.
