Duets: Part Deux is coming to Gympie this October long weekend
If you are looking for something fun to do in Gympie on the King's Birthday long weekend check out Duets: Part Deux.
Duets: Part Deux is an exciting Creative Arts Gympie project pairing 10 artists from different disciplines to create brand new artworks in non-traditional spaces. From Kinda Sweary poetry to fashion shows and video art, there's something happening all weekend. The fun begins on Friday 29 September and continues through to Monday 2 October. Wander down Mary Street to Twigga Books; check out the nest in the Gympie Regional Gallery workshop; drop into the Makers' Corner, the Library, or the RSL; join in the fun at the RSL on Friday night or head down to Perseverance Street Theatre Company on Saturday.
Here's the line up:
Visual artist Cherryl Chambers – Williams and writer Jess Weiss are exhibiting a large collage “Wings of Life”, telling stories of birds and feathers displayed in the window of Twiga Books. The artists are also running a treasure hunt, with artworks hung around Mary Street for participants to find. Check it out over the weekend.
Visual Artist Grace Martin and local comedian Anna Brennan have created GIRT on Friday 29 September at the Gympie RSL Poppy Room. GIRT is a free exhibition of B&W portrait photographs with an accompanying film, inspired by Gympie residents who have empowered Anna and Grace in the true sense of belonging.
Later Friday at 6pm Anna and Grace will host a panel discussion at the Rhythm Bar just a few steps down from the Poppy Room with a bar to purchase drinks and nibbles.
And there’s more! At 7pm Anna closes the night with a bang! Centralising around an (occasionally sweary) poetry reading, this will be Gympie’s own duet singing session with audience participation. Prize for the best duo! Get tickets at Humanitix

Anna and Grace are also presenting – A4 “Art4e’ryone, Art4sale, Art4eva” at the Makers Corner, 11 Berrie Street Gympie.
At the opening night on Saturday night, 30 September, 6pm at Perseverance Theatre Company Studio in Barter Street, join in “Dimensional Incursions” - an experiential festival-type event with digital projection of fractal images. Presented by electronic musician and video artist Ande Foster with jeweller and visual artist Frankie Barloc, repeated patterns are morphed and layered with video and sound effects where viewers become embedded within the film through a live feed.
Also on Saturday night, local photographer Jazmyn Smith and visual artist Zela Bissett present “Mother/Daughter Earth”, in collaboration with a small group of young women from the Gympie Flexi School. They have worked together to create an original song and accompanying film clip, performed by the young women, as well as wearable art produced from organic, sustainable textiles, signifying their dedication to nurturing the environment.
On Friday and Saturday 10 am – 4pm you can visit the Gympie Regional Gallery on Nash Street to witness “Nest, Grief, Relief” by writer and poet Tiarn Florence & artist Estefania Nurit Sabella Garaffa (Nia). Grief is the natural reaction to loss. Nesting is the process of deciding what you can live with when grieving. Tiarn and Nia have constructed a dome like nest from recycled and natural materials within the gallery workshop space and features projected footage inside the dome.
Tickets are also on sale for a private journalling workshop on Sunday "Write, Connect, Reflect" 10am - 12pm. Journalling Workshop: Write, Reflect, Connect. | Humanitix
