Backflow prevention

To make sure your water supply is safe from contaminants, a backflow prevention device may need to be installed. The water may be from the town water supply, rainwater tanks or another water supply.

The Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018 requires council to keep a register of testing for all backflow prevention devices.

Your responsibilities as an owner

  • Register the backflow prevention device with council by calling 5481 0456.
  • Maintain the device under the Plumbing and Drainage Regulation 2019.
  • Have the device inspected or tested by a licenced person at least once a year.
  • If the device will be in a flood area, it must be tested within 10 business days of subsidence of flood water.

Licencee responsibilities

  • Provide council notice within 10 days after testing or maintaining the device by completing this form. Your service agent may also upload the test report directly to council’s database.

Note: Fees will apply for lodging hard copy versions of the form.
