CBD Tree works and temporary road closures

On display until 08 June 2026, 12:00 AM

Gympie Regional Council will be conducting standard annual tree maintenance of all trees throughout Mary and Smithfield Street. To reduce disturbance, the works will be carried out from 8am over two days.

On Sunday 24 May, work will take place on the trees from Monkland Street to Smithfield Street. On Sunday 7 June, crews will make their way down Smithfield Street to Fiveways Roundabout.

Works

Council will be undertaking standard pruning maintenance on all trees along Mary Street and Smithfield Street to address tree structure, size and to reduce overhang on nearby buildings.

Additionally, three trees will be removed:

  1. Yellow Flame Tree (Cullinane's Plaza) - Basal decay and weak branch unions
  2. Yellow Flame Tree (Bank of Queensland) - Basal decay
  3. Leopard Tree (National Australia Bank) - Poor form and low aesthetic value

In accordance with the Five-Year Maintenance Program for Mary Street, the three trees identified for removal will be replaced with suitable species in the coming months that will continue to uphold the aesthetics of the street.

No other trees are identified for removal as part of these works.

Road Closures

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout Mary and Smithfield Street during the course of these works.

Road closures will occur between 7am and 4pm with detours in place.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during these works. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Gympie Regional Council on 1300 307 800.
