Gympie residents are invited to take part in a community workshop to help guide the future of Nelson Reserve and the Apex Playground as part of long-term planning for the space.
Gympie Regional Council is currently seeking community input on the project which is part of this year’s $94 million capital works program. The feedback will help inform a longer-term concept design for Nelson Reserve, and the renewal of the Apex Playground, which has reached end of life.
Gympie Mayor Glen Hartwig said residents had the opportunity to get together and map out what is possible for the area.
“Our parks and playgrounds are such valued assets in our community, and we recognise the importance of making sure they continue to be safe, accessible, and inviting for people of all ages and abilities,” Cr Hartwig said.
“We’ve already had a great response to our online survey and pop-up sessions, with more than 120 survey responses so far.
“The upcoming workshop is designed to dig a little deeper into how Nelson Reserve and Apex Playground are currently used, improvements that need to be made, and potential opportunities for the area.
“We have delivered similar workshops for projects in Imbil, Kilkivan, and our coastal towns in recent months, and they’re a great way to meet your neighbours, unpack what matters most to our people, and contribute positively to the future of our parks.
“If you are a local parent, carer, or an interested community representative, I encourage you to head along to the workshop on Wednesday night and be a part of creating something great for our region.”
Residents can register online for the workshop or phone Council directly to secure their space.
