Celebrate Seniors Month 2025 in the Gympie Region
Published on 26 September 2025
October is Queensland Seniors Month, a time to celebrate the incredible contributions and achievements of our older residents.
Throughout the month, seniors across the Gympie region can enjoy a variety of events, activities, and opportunities to connect, with the aim of promoting positive attitudes towards ageing, encouraging participation, and strengthening community connections.
Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig said Queensland Seniors Month was an important opportunity to recognise the vital role older residents play in the region.
“Our seniors are the backbone of our community. They are our mentors, storytellers, caregivers, and quiet achievers who continue to give so much of their valuable time to help others in the region,” Cr. Hartwig said.
“Every day, I see the positive impact seniors make in our community — whether it’s volunteering at local events, helping neighbours, supporting clubs and groups, or passing on skills and knowledge to younger generations.
“Seniors Month is our chance to say thank you, shine a spotlight on their achievements, and make sure they feel valued and connected.
“I encourage everyone to nominate a deserving senior, take part in the activities, and help us celebrate this special month.”
Throughout October, several events will be held across the region to celebrate, including:
Seniors Expo 2025:
The Seniors Expo will be held on Thursday, 30 October 2025, from 9am to 11.30am at The Pavilion Conference and Reception Centre, Gympie. This free Council run event offers seniors the chance to connect with local services, social groups, and recreational activities, while enjoying a free morning tea. Council is also calling for businesses, community groups and healthcare providers to register as exhibitors and be part of this popular annual event. Don’t miss the chance to showcase your offerings and make a real impact on our senior residents.
Senior Citizen of the Year Awards:
A highlight of the celebrations is the Senior Citizen of the Year Awards, which recognise residents aged 60+ who make an outstanding difference in our community through volunteering, cultural or sporting activities, preserving history, or simply inspiring others. Nominations are now open and close at 5pm on Monday, 20 October 2025.
Community groups hosting activities for Queensland Seniors Month are encouraged to register their events on Council’s What’s On page to help promote them to the wider community and make this year’s celebrations the biggest yet.
