The Gympie Region welcomed 34 new Australian citizens during an intimate Citizenship Ceremony at The Pavilion Conference and Reception Centre last week.

The region’s newest citizens came from more than 16 different countries including Thailand, the Netherlands, Bosnia, Canada, Nepal and Trinidad and Tobago.

Gympie Mayor Glen Hartwig said citizenship ceremonies were always special occasions for both the conferees and their families.

“Becoming an Australian citizen is a significant milestone, and it was an honour to celebrate this occasion alongside those involved,” Cr. Hartwig said.

“I’m always humbled by the stories shared during the ceremony of people who leave behind families and livelihoods to start a new life in our community, showing remarkable courage and determination.

“On behalf of everyone in the Gympie Region, congratulations to our newest citizens. We’re so happy you’ve chosen our beautiful part of the world to call home.”

This was the second citizenship ceremony held in the Gympie Region this year, with two more planned: on Friday, 19 June, and Friday, 18 September.
