Black Spot Intersection Upgrades

The Gympie region is set to benefit from meaningful road safety improvements, with a series of intersection upgrades and a road widening project scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. 

The intersections set for upgrade in Gympie include:

  • Louisa St / Alfred St, Gympie
  • Duke St / Jane St, Gympie
  • Church St / Calton Hill, Gympie

Additionally, Neerdie Road in Gunalda will undergo widening to improve road conditions and safety.

Works will include:

  • Installation of concrete splitter islands
  • Additional line marking
  • New street lighting and upgrades to existing lighting
  • Installation of new signage

Project Timeline

Construction is expected to begin in April 2025 with completion by late 2025, weather permitting.

Funding Information

These upgrades are made possible through federal funding from the Black Spot Program, which focuses on enhancing safety in high-risk areas prone to serious accidents.

Will there be detours in place while works are in progress?

Where detours are required, signage and traffic control will direct traffic during the works.

 

How will I be notified before construction starts?

Property owners adjacent to works will be notified in writing of the project, timeframes and expected impacts or diversions.

 

What are the hours of construction?

Monday to Friday: 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Line marking work is done at night to minimise impacts to daytime vehicle and pedestrian activity.
