Playground Renewal Project
Project Overview
Gympie Regional Council has completed a $1.1 million upgrade program to renew and improve parks and playgrounds across the region, delivering safer, more modern and inviting community spaces.
The program included playground renewals at the following locations:
- Wes Mitchell Park (Tin Can Bay)
- Mary Fereday Park (Carter’s Ridge)
- Marc Dower Park (Southside)
- Billy Phillips Park (Southside)
The playground works included replacing ageing equipment that had reached the end of its operational life, creating safe, modern play spaces for children of a range of ages.
The program also included upgrades to shelters, seating, picnic facilities and BBQ infrastructure at several parks across the region, improving accessibility, functionality and the overall visitor experience.
Project timing
Construction has now been completed across all playground renewal sites, with all upgraded playgrounds open to the public.
Impacts
During construction, playgrounds were temporarily closed to ensure community safety and allow works to be completed efficiently. Council provided advance notice of closures and regular updates throughout the project.
Funding Information
Funded by Council as part of the 2025/26 Capital Works Program ($588,000), this project forms part of Council’s ongoing investment in playground infrastructure across the region.
