Shelter Renewal Program

Project overview 

Council is delivering a region-wide shelter, furniture and BBQ renewal program to upgrade ageing park infrastructure and improve community spaces across the region. The works include the installation of modern picnic shelters, seating and replacement BBQ facilities (at selected parks) designed to provide more durable, resilient and accessible amenities for residents and visitors to enjoy.

A key focus of the program is improving the longevity of infrastructure, reducing maintenance requirements and supporting faster recovery following severe weather events.

During construction, affected shelters and facilities will be temporarily unavailable for public use.

Timeline and parks included in the program

Completed:

• Echelon Park (Jones Hill) - Replacement of two shelters, picnic settings and water bubbler.
• Carlo Point Park (Rainbow Beach) - Replacement of three shelters and picnic settings.
• Gympie Lions Park at Lake Alford –Replacement of BBQ facilities.
• Lions Park (Goomeri) - Refurbishment of shelter including repainting and concrete works, replacement BBQ, replacement of backboards and hoops at the basketball court.
• Attie Sullivan Park (Southside) - Replacement of two shelters, picnic settings and BBQ.

Underway:

• Lions Park (Goomeri) - Refurbishment of shelter including repainting and concrete works, replacement BBQ, replacement of backboards and hoops at the basketball court. 
• Lions Park (Rainbow Beach) - Replacement of one shelter and picnic setting

Funding Information

The works form part of Council’s broader $543,000 facilities renewal program allocated in this financial year’s budget. The investment reflects Council’s focus on maintaining existing community assets while supporting long-term community needs.
