Council boosts support for grassroots projects across the Gympie

Gympie Regional Council will consider a $645,000 community grant funding program to support projects, events and initiatives that benefit local communities when it hands down the Region’s 2026/27 budget next month.
The important annual Grants Program’s categories and guidelines was endorsed by Council at its June Ordinary Meeting with the funding package referred to the 2026/27 budget.
The updated guidelines, designed to improve access to funding and make project delivery easier, include higher funding limits across several grant categories and increased financial support for community halls.
Gympie Mayor Glen Hartwig said the changes to the grant guidelines were designed to help community organisations deliver even greater outcomes for local communities.
“With $645,000 proposed as part of Council’s 2026–27 budget, I look forward to seeing even more organisations bring their ideas to life and deliver projects that make a real difference across our region.
“Like households and businesses, community organisations are facing rising costs. By updating the grants guidelines, Council is helping ease some of that pressure so groups can continue delivering important community projects and services.
“Council has also agreed to increase support for community halls across the region to help meet rising insurance and operational costs.
“A key change to this year’s program is the inclusion of Biosecurity Project Grants within the competitive funding rounds. Promoting these grants alongside Council’s other funding opportunities will help raise awareness and make it easier for landholders to access support to manage invasive weeds and pest animals on their properties.
“So, if you’re part of a community group or looking to deliver a project that will benefit the community, now is the time to start planning, with the first competitive funding round set to open on Monday 3 August 2026.”
The 2026–27 Community Grants Program includes funding opportunities across a range of categories, including community development, facilities, environment, events, arts and culture, biosecurity initiatives, community halls and flying fox resident assistance.
