Canoe and kayak
As part of the Canoe and Kayak Strategy, works are nearing completion on the first round of activities that will enhance recreational opportunities on our waterways and reinforce the Gympie region as an outdoor recreation hub.
Launch points have been created at the Gympie Weir (near Kidd Bridge), Attie Sullivan Park (near Normanby Bridge) and Kandanga Weir (near the old railway station car park). A fourth access point to the River will be available at the Sands; part of the Gympie Regional Council's River to Rail Trail. The Trail is due to be opened in early 2018.
Launch points are also now available in the Imbil region. The Imbil launch points can be accessed at Yabba Creek, with parking available at Bert Smith Memorial Park (on Lambert Hyne Drive) and upstream on Yabba Creek Road (400m west of Mathias St). This creates an opportunity for a picturesque 2km paddle one-way or a great out and back paddle from either location.
The Canoe and Kayak Launch Point Project is part of a 10-year program of works to enhance activation of, and improve accessibility to the region's waterways for water-based recreational use.
