One of Gympie’s most popular winter traditions returns this July, with thousands expected to pack Mary Street for a night of entertainment, shopping and family fun.

Winter Trees on Mary returns to Mary Street, Gympie, on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, and will feature something for the whole family, including late-night boutique shopping, food vendors and a packed lineup of live music and entertainment.

This year’s event will also give residents their first opportunity to see the newly upgraded lighting display throughout Mary Street, with all 22 trees fitted with new lights that will be switched on during the event.

Gympie Mayor Glen Hartwig said Winter Trees on Mary had become a much-loved community tradition.

“For more than a decade, Winter Trees on Mary has been one of the standout events on the region’s calendar and something residents look forward to every year,” Mayor Hartwig said.

“What sets this event apart is the way local schools, businesses and community groups all get involved in decorating the trees in Mary Street. It’s a tradition that has stood the test of time and continues to draw people into the CBD, build community pride and showcase the creativity of our region.

“A key benefit of Council’s Mary Street events is the economic boost they provide to local businesses. Every dollar spent on the night helps support local traders, local jobs and the wider economy.

“When thousands of people come into the CBD, traders see a significant increase in foot traffic, with more people stopping for a meal, grabbing a coffee, doing a bit of shopping or simply not spending anything but time in our beautiful town.

“I encourage everyone to come along, enjoy the atmosphere, experience the new lighting display and have a great night out with loved ones.”

Council is seeking interest from potential sponsors for a range of Council-delivered events, including Winter Trees on Mary. To find out more, please contact Council at events@gympie.qld.gov.au by Friday, 10 July 2026.
