Queensland Ballet returns to Gympie with classes for all ages

Residents of all ages will have the opportunity to experience world-class ballet close to home when Queensland Ballet returns to Gympie this August with a series of community classes. 

Running from Tuesday 11 to Saturday 15 August, the program offers sessions for pre-schoolers, school-aged children, teenagers, adults and active seniors, giving participants of all experience levels the chance to build confidence, develop new skills and enjoy ballet in a welcoming and supportive environment. 

Gympie Mayor Glen Hartwig said Council’s partnership with Queensland Ballet, supported through the Regional Arts Development Fund, continued to provide valuable opportunities for the community to connect through dance. 

“Through the Regional Arts Development Fund, Council and the Queensland Government are jointly investing in a number of high-quality arts and cultural projects, including Queensland Ballet’s community classes, to deliver lasting benefits for communities across the Gympie Region,” Mayor Hartwig said. 

“Supporting arts and culture is an important part of creating vibrant, connected communities, and this partnership with Queensland Ballet helps ensure more residents can experience world-class workshops without having to leave the Gympie Region. 

“This connection with a world-class ballet company also provides fantastic opportunities for young people in our region who aspire to dance on a national or international stage. 

“Queensland Ballet’s visit to our region last year was incredibly well received, with residents of all ages and abilities taking part in workshops, classes and community activities. 

“Whether you enjoyed Queensland Ballet’s visit last year or are thinking about giving it a try for the first time, I’d encourage everyone to take advantage of this year’s program.” 

Alongside the community classes, Queensland Ballet will also present several free First 5 Forever Ballet Storytime sessions with Gympie Regional Libraries across the region. Designed for young children, the sessions combine storytelling, music, creative play and simple ballet-inspired movement to encourage early learning, creativity and imagination. 

This program is supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Gympie Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
