- Both required due to damage caused by weather events
- Council to communicate any potential closures with residents and businesses
Gympie Regional Council has awarded the tender for important infrastructure works that will see the replacement of roofs at the Gympie Library and the Gold City Centre Stage.
“The replacement works, under the Priority Building Asset Renewals Program – Gympie Central Business District, proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland Program in association with Gympie Regional Council, will deliver new roofs to buildings where the existing roofing has reached the end of its service life and sustained further damage from multiple severe weather events in recent years, including the 2022 floods.”
Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said the Queensland Government funding ensured local governments could continue to deliver infrastructure upgrades and repairs to vital facilities.
“Helping with repair costs, with $1.5 million from our Works for Queensland program, means community assets can continue to provide value for the communities that need them,” she said.
Member for Gympie, Tony Perrett MP, said the repairs are a practical investment in maintaining safe, accessible community facilities.
“This is about ensuring our community spaces remain safe, functional, and ready for everyday use. These repairs will keep the Gympie library and Gold City Centre Stage operating to the standard our region expects,” Mr Perrett said.
He added, “Places like the Gympie Library and Gold City Centre Stage are more than just buildings - they’re where locals of all ages come together to connect, learn, and celebrate.
By keeping these spaces in good shape, the Crisafulli government, working with Gympie Regional Council, is supporting the community spirit our region is known for.”
Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig said these works are vital in protecting the longevity and usability of these important community spaces.
“The Gympie Library and Gold City Centre Stage are both much-loved community assets — one offers a space to learn and connect, while the other brings people together through events and celebrations, like our CBD street parties,” Cr. Hartwig said.
“Thank you to the Queensland Government for helping fund these essential upgrades. They’ll ensure both facilities remain safe, accessible and ready for residents to use well into the future.”
Council will provide further updates in the coming weeks regarding the start date and any potential impacts on Gympie Library operating hours or access to the Gold City Centre Stage.
