Tagigan Road, Goomboorian, is set to benefit from accessibility and safety improvements, including widening a portion of the existing road between Tin Can Bay Road and Nall Road.

These upgrades are made possible through Australian Government funding of $2.3 million from the Roads to Recovery (RTR) Program, which supports the construction and maintenance of the local road infrastructure assets, facilitating greater accessibility and improved safety, economic and social outcomes for Australians.

Additional upgrade works include improvements to stormwater drainage, clearing of vegetation, and other associated works. The section of the road being widened is approximately 2.3km.

Construction is due to commence early October 2025 and is expected to be completed before the end of 2026, weather permitting.

Several roads in the Gympie region were assessed based on their condition, traffic volumes and maintenance needs. Tagigan Road was identified as a priority for improvement.

Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig spoke about the works coming up to enhance this high-risk road in an effort to ensure safer travel and improve traffic flow.

“These upgrades will greatly improve road safety in Gympie. Tagigan Road, in particular, sees nearly 500 vehicles daily, so these works are expected to provide better support for road traffic.

“The extreme wear and tear caused by significant use and weather damage has led to over 200 customer requests related to this road, with more than 43% citing concerns about its condition.

“Council recognises the ecological significance of the area and its koala habitat, so this project has undergone an environmental assessment to minimise impacts on local wildlife whilst these urgent works are underway.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and thank the Australian Government for their support in funding these critical improvements.” Said Mayor Hartwig.
