$1.1M upgrades breathe new life into Gympie’s parks and playgrounds
Gympie Regional Council has delivered a major boost to local parks and playgrounds this financial year after completing a $1.1m upgrade program focussed on delivering safer, more modern and inviting community spaces.
The program included both significant playground renewals and a region-wide upgrade of shelters, furniture and BBQ facilities to enhance the look, feel and usability of some of the region’s most popular outdoor spaces.
Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig said the completed works demonstrated Council’s commitment to maintaining recreational spaces for the community to enjoy.
“Our parks and playgrounds are where families and friends come together,” Mayor Hartwig said.
“More than $580,000 was invested through Council’s Playground Renewal Program this financial year, with ageing equipment replaced in Wes Mitchell Park in Tin Can Bay, Marc Dower Park, Billy Phillips Park in Gympie, and Mary Fereday Park in Cater’s Ridge.
"With a further $540,000 spent on delivering modern, durable and accessible park infrastructure at several sites across the region, with renewal works including new picnic shelters, seating, and BBQ facilities.
“While these may seem like straightforward renewal projects, they make a real difference to the everyday lives of residents across our region, and support our active, connected and outdoor lifestyle.”
