Gympie Regional Council has approved 207 new residential lots since June last year, with a further 514 under consideration, providing more opportunities for families looking to set up home in the Gympie Region.

Araluen and Southside alone have seen more than 120 new residential lots released this year.

Gympie Mayor Glen Hartwig said Gympie offered an attractive and affordable option for families wanting a regional, community focussed lifestyle with schools, medical facilities and shopping centres at all within easy reach, while still being close to the Coast and a major state route to both Brisbane and northern townships. He said with the release of over 200 new lots in the past 12 months and more than twice as many in the approval process, the Gympie Region was catering to this strong demand.

“There is no doubt that Gympie is an exciting place to live. If you drive around the region today, there are a lot of new housing estates opening up with homes being built in communities right across the Region,” Mayor Hartwig said.

“Whether it’s the larger blocks in Araluen that appeal to families wanting more room for their children to play, or the convenience of living close to schools, shops and services on Southside, our communities continue to attract people looking for an affordable place to build a home.

“Developers continue to invest strongly in key growth areas, particularly Araluen, where Council has approved almost 130 residential lots over the past two years.

“To maintain that momentum, Council is working to streamline approval processes where possible, helping to make the Gympie Region even more attractive for developers to invest and build.”

Mayor Hartwig said planning for future growth had been a key priority for Council to ensure the region was well positioned to meet housing demand in the years ahead.

“Council’s Economic Development Strategy 2025–2029 forecasts the Gympie Region will welcome more than 2,000 additional residents over the next decade, and planning for the roads, water, sewerage and community infrastructure needed to support that growth has been a major focus of Council’s 2026–27 Budget deliberations,” he said.

“With support from the Queensland Government’s Residential Activation Fund, Council is exploring suitable areas for future housing growth that could see more than 5,300 new homes built across the region in the coming years.

“These growth areas will play a critical role in helping address housing pressures across Queensland while also supporting local jobs, investment and economic development in the Gympie Region long into the future.”
