Thursday 16 October 5:30pm

Take this unique and free opportunity to hear from Henri van Noordenburg, one of the Gallery's special guest judges for the Du Rietz Art Awards 2025, about his own career.

Meet Henri and peer behind the curtain at his career as a visual artist and project officer at the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, facilitating touring exhibitions, kids programs and education programs in Queensland and the Torres Strait.

About Henri

Henri van Noordenburg was born in Amersfoort, The Netherlands, in 1967. Moving to Australia in 1991, he completed a Visual Arts and a Creative Writing degree at Griffith University, followed by a Masters in Photography and Theatre at Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Henri currently works at the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art as Project Officer for Regional Services and is a practicing artist. He has held many roles including lecturer in Photography at QUT and QUT International, Visual Arts Coordinator at the Brisbane Powerhouse, and Board Member for Queensland Centre for Photography (QCP).

As a practicing artist, Henri has exhibited nationally and internationally for the last two decades, most recently at Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery, WM Gallerie (Amsterdam) and Logan Art Gallery. Henri is represented by Gallerie Kunstkomplex, Wuppertal, Germany and Kunstkomplex-Menunni in Basel, Switzerland.

For the last decade he has developed a new technique of hand carving into inkjet prints a technique similar to the sgraffito process. This unique technique in combination with photography marked a significant change in his art practice. His work is part of private and public collections across Australia and internationally.

Don't forget you can join us at a series of other events during the launch weekend of the Du Rietz Art Awards. Visit the Gallery's website for more details.
