Gympie Regional Council is continuing its commitment to responsible investment in community spaces in its ongoing program of renewing ageing infrastructure in parks across the region.

The region-wide shelter, furniture and BBQ renewal program is seeing modern picnic shelters and seating designed to improve the durability of furniture particularly in parks located in flood-prone areas.

The program also includes BBQ replacements at selected sites.

The works form part of Council’s broader $543,000 facilities renewal program allocated in this financial year’s budget. The investment reflects Council’s focus on maintaining existing community assets while supporting long-term community needs.

Gympie Mayor Glen Hartwig said the works demonstrate council’s focus on ensuring our parks remain safe and welcoming.

“Our parks and open spaces are an important part of our everyday, offering a place for people to come together, connect, and enjoy our region’s beautiful outdoor environment,” Mayor Hartwig said.

“These relatively small-scale works make a significant impact to our region’s liveability, and this continued investment demonstrates council’s commitment to providing safe and accessible places for all to enjoy.’’

Mayor Hartwig said while Councillors were now focussing on developing the region’s 2026/27 annual budget, Council teams were continuing to plan and deliver the projects endorsed last year as part to the 2025/26 annual financial plan.

“Some of these works will disrupt our residents as they go about their everyday activities. So I thank you for your patience as we work hard to deliver some great new and refreshed public spaces for all to enjoy.”
