Gympie Regional Council is planning to conduct a prescribed burn for hazard reduction and environmental purposes at Glastonbury in the coming weeks, weather permitting. This burn is to reduce fuel load and support biodiversity outcomes on the Broadbent Street Road Reserve at Glastonbury. These operations will be carried out in conjunction with the Rural Fire Service Queensland.
The burn area is approximately 3 hectares and is located on the Broadbent Street Road Reserve. The planned operations will take wind direction into account to minimise smoke impacts on residents; however, members of the public are advised to take the following precautions if smoke is present:
- Keep doors and windows closed to help prevent smoke from entering homes.
- Reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels become high.
- Drivers should remain alert for smoke hazards and firefighters working near roadways.
- If driving in smokey conditions, slow down, keep windows closed and turn headlights on.
Please ensure fire breaks behind residential properties are kept clear during this period.
If you would like further information or an additional notification before the planned burn operations, please contact Gympie Regional Council on 1300 307 800 or council@gympie.qld.gov.au.
