Tin Can Bay and Cooloola Cove take a step in the right direction

Gympie Regional Council has endorsed Walking Network Plans to help secure future investment into footpaths for the two coastal townships
Council secured funding through the Walking Local Government Grant program to develop the plans in partnership with the community. The Plans identify key walking routes to vital community hubs, including schools, town centres, community facilities and recreational areas.
Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig said that the adoption of the Walking Network Plans was an important step in providing necessary walking linkages within the two communities.
“These townships are growing and it’s important our infrastructure keeps pace with that growth,” Mayor Hartwig said.
“Adopting these plans demonstrates our commitment to establishing safer, connected walking routes within Tin Can Bay and Cooloola Cove.
“Having a clear action plan on priority routes will also help Council advocate for future funding to develop plans for other areas in the Gympie region that are in need of walkable connectivity.
“With these plans now in place, Council is in a strong position to apply for funding to get those footpaths built, giving us a clear, well-researched case to take to funding bodies.”
Division 1 Councillor Jess Milne said the plan was a great step towards creating healthier more connected communities.
The Walking Network Plans have been developed in close consultation with the community, and thanks to that input, the teams were able to identify the routes that matter the most to residents,” Cr Milne said.
“It was important that the plans reflected what locals actually use and need, not just what looks good on paper.
"Thank you everyone who got involved in providing feedback and helping to guide the plans. The local knowledge and feedback we received is what has helped make these plans a true reflection of what the community needs.
“These plans will also help us advocate for more walking paths within these communities, giving people more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors while having safe paths to do so.”
