Gympie Regional Council has endorsed the next stage of its multi-year Water Network Water Main Renewal Program, delivering vital upgrades to ageing water infrastructure across the region.

At its Ordinary Meeting on 28 January 2026, Council approved the award of contracts for the 2025-26 water main renewal works, covering twelve priority sites identified in Council’s Water Asset Management Plan.

Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig said the investment demonstrated Council’s strong focus on maintaining essential infrastructure that residents rely on every day.

“Having a dependable water supply is something everyone expects, and these upgrades help make sure it stays that way,” Cr Hartwig said.

“By replacing older assets before they cause problems, we can avoid unexpected disruptions and keep the water network working well for our communities now and into the future.”

The works will be delivered in two contract packages, with Offaly Civil Pty Ltd awarded projects valued at $1.98 million and L L Stutt Family Trust T/A Eastoli Civil Constructions awarded works valued at $1.84 million, both excluding GST.

The renewal program will see water mains replaced in the following locations:

  • Brisbane Road, Gympie
  • Dolphin Avenue, Tin Can Bay
  • Drummer Street, Tin Cay Bay
  • Gympie Road, Tin Can Bay
  • Nimrod Street, Cooloola Cove
  • Phoenix Lane, Gympie
  • Rafter Road, Gympie
  • Stanley Lane, Gympie
  • Tarwhine Street, Tin Can Bay
  • Turana Street, Rainbow Beach
  • Widgee Crossing Road, Gympie
  • Yabba Creek Road, Imbil

These upgrades will improve the reliability and safety of the region’s water supply, reduce the risk of leaks and bursts and support future growth across urban and township areas.

The $4.87 million works are proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program through the ‘Water and Sewer Main Infrastructure Renewal’ project in association with the Gympie Regional Council. Construction will commence during the 2025-26 financial year, with some works continuing into 2026-27.

Council received six tenders through an open and competitive procurement process, with submissions assessed against price, experience, methodology, safety, quality and local benefit criteria. The successful tenderers were selected as offering the best overall value for money while managing delivery risk and maximising efficiency.

By splitting the works between two contractors, Council expects to achieve savings of approximately $200,000 compared to awarding all works to a single provider.

This investment supports Council’s Corporate Plan in delivering reliable and safe infrastructure, maintaining essential assets, and efficiently delivering capital works that benefit the whole community.
