Imbil Library refresh to begin
Published on 15 April 2026
The much-loved Imbil Library is undergoing a facelift as part of Council’s ongoing investment in important community facilities across Gympie Region.
The project is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete and will include repainting, new carpet, a new service desk and public computer desk, as well as updated shelving and furniture.
To facilitate the upgrades, the library will be temporarily closed from Monday, 27 April to Friday, 8 May 2026.
Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig said the project was an important investment in Imbil's community facilities.
“Located in the centre of town, Imbil Library is a well-used and valued facility that services the entire Mary Valley. This refresh is long overdue and demonstrates Council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining our community facilities,” Cr Hartwig said.
Divisional Councillor Gordon Maudsley said he was looking forward to the outcome.
“It’s great to see this investment in Imbil. The library is an important learning and social hub for our community, and I’m excited to see the finished result. Once it reopens, I encourage everyone to visit, explore the refreshed space and borrow a book or two,” Cr Maudsley said.
During the closure, customers can visit one of five libraries across the region, located in Gympie, Tin Can Bay, Rainbow Beach, Kilkivan or Goomeri.
Customers can also access the online library collection 24/7 at library.gympie.qld.gov.au
