Families can explore an interactive exhibition featuring imaginative cardboard sculptures, wearable artworks and hands-on creative activities at Gympie Regional Gallery these winter school holidays.

On display until 11 July, The Magnificent Land of Wonderous Things is designed especially for children and families and invites visitors to explore an immersive world of imaginative creatures. Children can also create a cardboard Wonderling to take home or contribute to the growing exhibition.

Developed in partnership with award-winning Fraser Coast artist Kym Cunningham, The Magnificent Land of Wonderous Things combines original artworks with contributions from primary school students across the Gympie Region.

Alongside the family-focused exhibition, visitors can also enjoy Mark Dober: En Plein Air, featuring a collection of landscape works inspired by the natural environment.

Gympie Region Mayor Glen Hartwig said the exhibition offered a unique opportunity for families to experience art in a fun, engaging and accessible way.

“It’s great to see Gympie Regional Gallery offering a free experience that encourages children to get creative while spending quality time together as a family in their own backyard,” Mayor Hartwig said.

“Providing opportunities like this helps make arts and culture more accessible for our community and encourages people of all ages to experience the Gallery in a fun and engaging way.

“It’s a great opportunity to do something different these school holidays, and I would encourage families to come along, get involved and see where their imagination takes them.”
