Infrastructure to support residents every day
Gympie Regional Council is supporting the region’s everyday needs with a comprehensive program of infrastructure works and service improvements.
Highlights of the program were endorsed by Council at the August Ordinary Meeting as part of the quarterly reporting process. This quarter, the report outlined the day-to-day services and capital works being delivered across the Gympie Region, including essential road maintenance, upgrades to open spaces and recreation facilities, and critical water infrastructure repairs.
Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig said the reports were a good way to provide the Council, and the community, with a quarterly snapshot of what is being delivered across the region.
"Council invested $1.8 million into the Region’s road network in quarter four with projects covering everything from grading and pothole repairs to road drainage, footpath maintenance, bridge repairs and more," Mayor Hartwig said.
“More than 590 emergent road defects were addressed, with an average response time of 16 days.
"In addition to keeping up with scheduled maintenance and flood recovery efforts, our roads team is also fielding customer enquiries every single day. This quarter alone, we received 1,186 new customer requests and managed to close out 1,093 of them – that is a 92% closure rate.
“While I hear our community saying that we need to do more, with a road network spanning more than 2,238 kilometres, Council’s road repair crews are working hard to keep the community safe and connected.
“This quarter Council also delivered 100 per cent of its allocated 2025/26 Transport and Main Roads funding in a regionwide slashing, gravel re-sheeting, reseal preparation, signage and emergent response works program across state-controlled roads.”
Mayor Hartwig said the Gympie region also benefited from a range of works to upgrade facilities in parks and open spaces across the region.
“Numerous parks have had a real facelift this quarter, with four playgrounds replaced and a number of new shelters and BBQ renewals. These upgrades are so important for our community, giving families and friends great spaces to enjoy the outdoors."
The quarterly report also provided Council with an update on the Gympie Water Alliance program which has moved from planning into delivery.
The Alliance with SRG Global Utilities and WSP Australia Pty Ltd, which was established in April this year to help roll out plans to secure the region's water supply, has commenced early works at the Jones Hill Water Treatment Plant.
The works will support the long-term reliability and efficiency of Gympie’s water network and help maintain reliable water services for the community.
Additional infrastructure works completed this quarter include:
- Ongoing flood recovery works throughout the region
- Upgrades to sporting and recreational open spaces
- Water and sewerage networks upgrades
