Extracts from the Archives - 7 News
Gympie Regional Libraries have partnered with the Seven network to preserve a unique part of the region’s history. In the 1990s the Library Board of Queensland funded 12 volumes of videocassettes of snippets of news footage from the Wide Bay region from Wide Bay Queensland Channel 8 (WBQ8). Three of these volumes are about Gympie region and have recently been re-discovered. The Seven Network has digitised the footage and made them available to Gympie Regional Libraries free of charge – to use on Facebook, YouTube and our library catalogue.
Footage includes the Gympie Show in 1969 and 1970, Imbil Show in 1966, scout jamboree in 1967, sporting competitions such as archery, swimming, tennis and boxing. There are several clips of the then Town Council officiating at events around town – the Centenary celebrations, opening of the Scottish Drive-in and also the Kilkivan Council at the opening of the hall and library.
All these clips can be viewed on our YouTube channel playlist. View Here
The project was supported by an innovation grant from the Library Board of Queensland.
